In Chile, almost two hundred psychologists, psychiatrists, and other medical doctors have signed an important new statement of the negative effects of abortion on women’s mental health in an effort to make clear the real cost of abortion and refute claims by abortion advocates that the mental health effects of abortion are minimal or non-existent.
The HSE and Minister Leo Varadkar must authorise a formal review of an abortion carried out in a Leinster hospital after staff in “several areas”, including “nurses, obstetricians, anaesthetists and psychiatrists” expressed concern about the case, the Life Institute said today.
The Life Institute has said that the HSE inquiry into the care of a woman who requested an abortion must include a thorough and transparent investigation into the involvement of the abortion agency, the Irish Family Planning Association.
Pro-life groups have strongly condemned the Government’s decision to ram through its flawed abortion legislation, labelling it as a “betrayal of unborn children, a betrayal of a party promise and a betrayal of the Irish people”. They have called for the Bill to be put to the people in a referendum under Article 27. Admiration was expressed for the deputies who had put principle before politics to vote No to the bill, while other politicians have been described as 'spineless and amoral' for breaking their pro-life promise.
